Johnston has lived in the Bronte communi- ty on and off since 1974. He is married and has three daughters and two grandchildren. LINDA OLIVER Oliver, a registered nurse at Oakville- Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) for the past 30 years who now works part-time, stated on her website that she is concerned with a number of local issues, which make up the four pillars of her campaign. These issues include concern over the lack of affordable housing. I will advocate for affordable housing so our children with their families have a choice to stay in Oakville and our seniors can afford to downsize and remain close to family and friends, she said. I believe in safe affordable, accessible hous- ing and recreation for seniors. In another pillar, Oliver said, she would also work to create a safe environment in Ward 1 by addressing such things as traffic congestion and speeding. Youth support was listed as another pillar with Oliver stating she would work to expand the support and guidance offered to youth by the Bronte Youth Centre. Making sure the Town and the Region issue enough resources to promote economic devel- opment was also listed as a priority along with supporting and planning responsible growth that does not negatively affect current resi- dents. If elected, Oliver said, she would look to bring about a return to backyard politics where decisions are influenced collectively by citizens and neighbours and not by partisan politics and special interests. In addition to serving Oakville as a nurse at OTMH, Oliver has also served the community on various committees including the hospitals ethics committee. She has also served as president of the nurs- ing council, is currently sitting as an alternate on the hospitals fiscal advisory council and is a certified member on the OTMH Joint Health and Safety Committee. Oliver has also recently become a member of the Bronte Village Residents Association. Oliver has lived in Oakville since 1975 and has lived in Bronte since 1985. She is married and has three children and four grandchildren. For more information, visit www.lindaoliv- er.ca. Oliver, Johnston and Aceti compete in Ward 3 regional race Continued from page 3
