What would you do if you got a call from a rural county volunteer that a dog was to be euthanized in 10 minutes and needs a rescue to save him? Or the dog was caught in a steel trap and needs his leg to be amputated, or the dog is blind. These are the frequent kind of calls the Dog Rescuers rescue receive continually. Rural county shelters do not have the means to handle needy dogs so they are euthanized. Realizing a need to help save these dogs a group of dedicated people became determined to make a difference, stated Dolores Doherty, president of the Abbey Oaks Off-Leash Management Committee and liaison to the Town of Oakville. The Dog Rescuers steps in when theres a need and funds raised will help pay for rescued dogs veterinary bills and costs to care for the dogs until they find a good adoptive home. Sundays event will be held at the Palermo Park. It will feature an antique fire truck from the Oakville Fire Department, dog agility courses, drug- detecting dogs and field trailing dogs that find lost people demonstrating their skills. Some Oakville firefighters will be the barbecue chefs. Dog contests, always a popular favourite, will have prizes for all entries. The first 150 people to attend the fundraiser will receive a doggie bag of goodies. The events major fundraiser will be a silent auction, which will offer a wide selection of items with some- thing for everyone. The Dog Rescuers is located in Oakville.
