The sun rose over Lake Ontario as organizers put the finishing touches to the new venue for the annual fundraising run at Coronation Park. By 10 a.m., participants had filled the park to kick off the 30th Anniversary Terry Fox Run. Local residents Joan Gibb and Kim Shikaze were honoured for their 30 consecutive years of participation in the Terry Fox Run. We worked hard to ensure that the 30th anniversary would be a special one and Oakville answered the call. The move to Coronation Park seemed to reju- venate our Oakville run, said Ralph Robinson, who has organ- ized the local event for the last 25 years. One of the most moving sights was seeing the runners of Team Darrell, who raised over $10,000, with Darrell's picture on their backs and with Darrell cheering from the sidelines as they walked and ran by. Talking to cancer survivors over the last few days, it certain- ly gives meaning to what we do each year with the Terry Fox Run, said Pam Damoff, one of the local organizers. Terry Fox inspired us 30 years ago, and continues to inspire us today. By the end of the day, more than $65,000 had been raised, with more pledges expected over the coming weeks. Pledges can still be made online at www.terryfox.org.
