By Jon Kuiperij BEAVER SPORTS EDITOR Rebecca Plouffe admits shes a little intimidated by the prospect of joining the perennially-powerful Oakville Trafalgar Red Devils girls field hockey program this fall. But, judging by her perform- ance at the recent Ontario Summer Games in Sudbury, she should fit in at OT just fine. One of the youngest players on the under-16 South squad, Plouffe scored three important goals in the final two games of the tournament to lead her team to provincial gold. The 13-year-old notched a pair of markers in the semifinals as the South, a team representing Halton, Hamilton and Niagara, edged Central West (Kitchener/Waterloo/Guelph) 4-3 in penalty flicks. Plouffe then scored in the first 10 minutes of the championship game against top-seeded Central (Toronto and the northeastern Greater Toronto Area), a goal that proved to be the winner in the 1-0 South triumph. I had no idea, Plouffe said when asked if she thought her early goal might stand up the rest of the way. I knew it would be a really close game. Plouffe was just one of six Oakville players on the Souths 14- player roster. Leah Burke, Hannah Roche, Cadence Baker, Sydney Cudmore and Robyn Hicks also suited up for the regional squad. That was amazing, said Burke, who had one of the Souths two shootout goals in the semifinal contest. It really shows that were talented and we could represent our town. The South completed the tour- nament with a 4-0 record, defeating Central 1-0 and whipping West 5-1 in the preliminary round. All but three players on the South squad, including all six Oakville players, are members of the Halton Field Hockey Club. HFHC coaches Carmen Deleanu and Taylor Penny coached the South team. 9 Locations To Serve You Better! 905-849-4998 www.aireone.com 1-888-827-2665*Call Dealer for Details A+ Rating www. .com Depend on the largest Dealer in the Golden Horseshoe SCRATCH & WIN Take advantage of our SCRATCH & SAVE.
