The parents of Sydneys friend called 911 and Weinerman who frantically rushed to the gym, arrived on the scene only minutes later. By this time a woman who had recently completed a first aid course had wrapped Sydneys hand and packed the severed finger with ice. An ambulance arrived moments later taking Weinerman and her daughter to the hospital. It was not until that ambu- lance ride that Weinerman saw the true extent of her daugh- ters injury. When they unwrapped it, it was hanging off by a shred of skin, said Weinerman. She, of course, went into shock and they had to set her up on an IV and they gave her some morphine for the pain and stabilized her. After several hours doctors at the hospital confirmed they would be able to save Sydneys finger. Weinerman said Sydney is recovering from the accident. She developed an infection a couple weeks in so her sum- mer has not been the best, but she is doing better now. Her finger is obviously misshapen, there is no nail, but hopefully it will grow back. She is in good spirits considering she missed out on camp for a month and a half. Shortly before 1 a.m., a man entered the store and went to the pharmacy, indicated to the male employee that he had a gun and demanded the painkiller Oxycontin, which was provided. The suspect fled. No one was injured in the robbery and no gun was seen. The suspect is described as a white male, 5-foot-6, 23 to 30 years, unshaven and slim. He wore a t-shirt with a black lion logo printed in the centre, sun- glasses and a New York Yankees baseball hat.
