By Dominik Kurek OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF A 21-year-old Oakville musician will defi- nitely be watching television on Sept. 3. And hell be watching something that under nor- mal circumstances he likely wouldnt think to click to. That is because he is appearing in a movie, which premiers on the Disney Channel world- wide and the Family Channel in Canada that day, alongside the Jonas Brothers and actress Demi Lovato among other big names. Kevin Krouglow is appearing in the TV movie Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. I wouldnt have originally been planning on watching it, but yes, Im going to watch it, he said. The St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Secondary School graduate is a musician and composer who began dabbling in acting about two years ago. Coincidentally, hes appearing in a film about a music school camp, but in real life he actually teaches music at a local studio. Though he doesnt have a big role in the film, he is fairly recognizable in several shots. For the film he was hired as a special skills extra, for his ability to play guitar. There is one long scene where he plays guitar and the big name stars are sitting around him and singing. Theres also another shot of me for the introduction when Im playing guitar on a canoe for a bit, but its just a passing scene and I dont know if theyre going to use that in the w w w . o a kv ill eb ea ve r.c o m O A KV IL LE B EA V ER Fr id ay , A ug us t 1 3, 2 01 0 2 6 Artscene Musician in film sequel with Jonas Brothers cut, he said. There are several more perform- ance scenes that he was in, but he is unsure how much screen time he will have from those. When Krouglow signed up for the role, because of its secrecy, he did not know what he signed up for. His mother did some research and told him she thought it was for Camp Rock 2, which was being filmed at the time in the Toronto area. He didnt believe her at first. I got there and then at first I was just starting to suspect it too and then, when I was in that first scene, all the actors introduced themselves to me, he said. I didnt know any of them yet except the Jonas Brothers, I knew what they look like, but not Demi (Lovato) or Jasmine (Richards), or Jordan (Francis) or any of those other peo- ple. And then it sank in, oh my God, Im in Rock Camp 2. Spending some two weeks at three different film locations Rockwood, Haliburton and Toronto he got to spend some time with the stars of the film, and he said they were all nice people. Theyre actually really nice. They came up and introduced themselves to me. I didnt have to go up and to them or they didnt sit down and completely ignore me. They were like, Oh hey, hows it going, and making conversation. Even the Jonas Brothers introduced themselves, he said. I remember at one point I was starving because they serve you at really irregular times. I was sitting by the heater and then Alyson Stoner came up and said, We have these sandwiches and I dont think Im going to eat them. Do you guys want them? She offered us sand- wiches. Out of the whole cast she seemed like the nicest one. The young man got the part thanks to the bassist from his for- mer band Aberdeen. The bassist was with a talent agency and because the film needed musicians as extras, the band members got the parts.
