The Athletiques International coach competed herself at the Ontario Masters track-and-field championships at York University, setting three personal bests on the way to winning four medals, including two gold. Sanchez narrowly missed the eightmeter mark in the 20-pound weight throw, winning the event with a toss of 7.97 metres. She also won the hammer throw with a distance of 16.22m. Both were personal bests. Her other personal best came in the discus toss, with a 21.05m throw good for bronze. Sanchez's other medal, a bronze, came in the shot put (6.36m). Athletiques member Sharaz Shaikh added pair of medals. Shaikh won gold in men's javelin with a season-best throw of 48.5m, then earned bronze in discus (31.41m). The next masters meet is the Canadian championships, slated for July 24-25 at the University of Toronto. Five of Sanchez's students recently qualified by virtue of performance for direct entry into the National Legion meet in Ottawa later this summer, bringing the Athletiques' total of qualifiers to nine. William Christodoulou, 15, won all three of his allowed events at the Royal Canadian Legion District B championships in Mississauga, including victories in the discus and javelin. Fatim Ammor, also 15, won the shot put and earned bronze in the discus and javelin. Sixteen-year-old Claire Segeren and 15-year-old John Breeson won their race walk events.
