Elora defeated the Buzz 7-5 to tie up the first-round best-of-five series 1-1. Game 3 is tomorrow (Thursday) in Elora. Atom Cowboys rally for tie with Beaton Despite playing without their regular starting quarterback, the Halton Cowboys atoms managed to rally from two touchdowns down for an 18-18 tie with the Beaton TNT Express Saturday in Ontario Minor Football League play. Dante Iaconiello and Jeremy Clark filled in for missing QB Garrett Holmes, and Clark reached the end zone on a quarterback keeper in the dying minutes to tie the game. Raymar Lloyd also contributed some key yardage on the game-tying drive. Joshua Roberts scored Halton's first touchdown of the game, while Jordan Arruda returned a kickoff for a TD in the fourth quarter. The atoms will host the Brantford Bisons this Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff at King's Christian Collegiate. The Cowboys' other OMFL teams will also be in action Saturday. The tykes will take on the Brampton Bulldogs for a 2 p.m. start in Mississauga, while the peewees will entertain the Cambridge Lions at King's, beginning at 3:30 p.m. Last weekend was a rough one for the Cowboys' Ontario Varsity Football League squads, all of them going down decisively against Hamilton. The peewees were blanked 66-0, the junior varsity squad fell 35-8 and the varsity team was downed 32-1. Jovan Burgess had five tackles and an interception for the peewees, who kept working hard throughout the game despite the disparity in the score. Center Chris Desouza also had a strong game defensively, but Halton struggled to stop the potent passing game of the Ironmen. Wes Miller scored a touchdown for the junior varsity Cowboys, running 85 yards. Shalmar Walters had nine tackles and knocked down two passes. The varsity Cowboys were hampered by the absence of a few key players. The Cowboys' OVFL teams will hope for better results this weekend when they host a triple-header against the Mississauga Warriors at Burlington's Corpus Christi Secondary School. The peewees will play at 11:30 a.m., followed by the junior varsity team at 3 p.m. and the varsity club at 7 p.m.
