Congratulations Barrett Russell Cook Public Auctions l Lifetimes / Milestones GRANT, Roy - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Roy Kenneth Grant. He passed away peacefully at home in his 89th year, accompanied by his son and daughter in song and champagne. Predeceased by his wife, Kathr yn Joyce Austin Smith Grant on Februar y 22, 2010. Adored father of John and Vanessa. A second father to their spouses, Lynda and Philip. Beloved grandfather of Michael (Diane), Tara and Jamie. Great-grandfather of Brayden, Caitlin and Bailey. Dad grew up in northern Ontario born on Baker Street in Cobalt on September 21, 1921 to Charles Roy Grant and Dad's loving mother, Elizabeth May Sullivan Grant. Dad's family lived i n E l k L a k e , M a t a c h e w a n a n d H a i l e y b u r y. D a d t o l d g r e a t s t o r i e s o f t h e personalities of the near North, which included tales of the loggers and miners who settled the land. Dad himself was a miner in Cobalt and Bancroft. Although he never spoke much about the war, he served proudly during World War II in Europe as a tank gunner-operator with the 4th (Canadian) Armoured Division (South Alberta Regiment). After the war, Dad was a stationary engineer with the City of Niagara Falls. Construction was Dad's forte: he was a remarkable builder and craftsman. He built our family homes in North Bay and Oakville and was also involved in his children's construction projects, building a model working mine for John's Grade 7 geography class. Dad got an "A+". Dad believed in family first and helping others without making a big fuss about it. Although he accomplished much in his professional life, most of all, Dad was a loving, caring father. He took pride in the accomplishments of his children: "Doctor Captain" John and his opera singing lawyer daughter, Vanessa. He was loved and beloved by those who knew him, although he certainly had "views" on many things, which he shared with anyone who would listen (or not). We would like to thank Shelley, Dr. Benjamin and the staff at Veterans Affairs and CCAC for their care of our father during his illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Threshold School of Building (www.thresholdschool.ca), of which John is the Executive Director or Child Development Institute (www.childdevelop.ca), of which Vanessa is a board member. In accordance with Dad's wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Cremation has taken place and we will be scattering Dad's ashes at his favourite lake. We all love you, Dad. The squirrels and the birds will miss you. A Book of Memories may be signed at www.wardfuneralhome.com BAXTER, Anne 1950-2010. Annie Baxter was caring, loyal, funny, and full of love and life.
