The exhibit features the photographs of a pair of local students and is part of the national tour to feature the photography work of students aged 12 to 18 from Ontario and Canadian independent schools. The exhibit is a partnership between PhotoSensitive and Oakville's St. Mildred'sLightbourn School (SMLS) with the support of Greenwood College School and Matthews Hall Independent School. The two locals in the event are SMLS students Maddie Goodall, Grade 12, and Alana Ratcliffe-Lake, Grade 11. Each image in the exhibit offers a unique perspective into a disease that affects two in five Canadians. The main goal of this local exhibition -- a mini version of the nationally touring Cancer Connections exhibition -- is to raise awareness about cancer and the impact it has on the lives of everyday Canadians. An opening ceremony took place last week and featured former Oakville mayor Ann Mulvale, a cancer survivor. Also present were Don Abma from the Canadian Cancer Society, with Andrew Stawicki, founder of PhotoSensitive, James Burns, project co-ordinator, Jackie Osmond Patrick, school co-ordinator, Karen Dyne, head of Visual Arts at SMLS and SMLS art teacher Otino Corsano. The display at Oakville Place represents a culmination of student photographs submitted for the project. Goodall and Ratcliffe-Lake each had a piece selected for the national tour, which are on display at the local exhibit. The national tour has also exhibited in Vancouver, and Calgary. The finale is currently taking place in Ottawa and continues through June 14. For more information, visit www.smls.on.ca or www.photosensitive.com/cc/. Annual OTMH Classic is warming up to run on June 20 On Sunday, June 20, the annual OakvilleTrafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) Classic will be held at Wallace Park. In partnership with Oak-Land Ford Lincoln and Ford Motor Company of Canada, the OTMH Classic is in its 14th year. Participants can register for one of the following race activities: 5km Run, 5km Power Walk, 3km Family Walk or the 1km Children's Fun Run. During last year's race, close to 1,200 community members participated, generating more than $120,000 for the OTMH Cardiology Department. This year's goal is to raise $150,000 to purchase essential new equipment for OTMH including the Cardiology Department -- one of the greatest growth areas in the hospital today. In the past 10 years the number of cardiac tests completed at OTMH has more than doubled and more than 12,000 cases are seen annually. This year, Lynn Pike and Sandra McAughey are volunteer co-chairs of the Classic committee and have been volunteering with OTMH for close to 10 years. "We want to make sure our hospital can offer the best care available," said McAughey. "It's what our family, friends and neighbours deserve." "The equipment we purchase through the Classic could save the life of someone participating in the event or a member of our own family. When you come through those hospital doors, you want to know they have the latest equipment to treat you," said Pike. Take the first steps of registering online at www.otmhclassic.com.
