Sole Sisters preparing for their toughest challenge yet By Jon Kuiperij BEAVER SPORTS EDITOR 25 · Wednesday, May 26, 2010 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com The Sole Sisters keep finding ways to one-up themselves. For the past three years, the group of four Oakville women has undertaken a number of different physical challenges while raising money for various charities. Their resume over that time includes the Courage Brothers' Polar Bear Dip, the Oakville Mercedes-Benz 10K run, the Labour Day Oakville Half-Marathon, the Around the Bay 30K Road Race and the CN Tower Climb. The next task is their toughest one yet -- completing the Oxfam Trailwalker Canada team challenge, where all four of them will be required to hike 100 kilometres in a 48-hour span. Each team must start together, reach all eight check-points together and cross the finish line together. The women don't plan on sleeping until completing the hilly course, which will begin at the Snow Valley Ski Resort near Barrie, wind through the Simcoe County Forest on the Ganaraska Hiking Trail and conclude at Orillia's Tudhope Park. "There's tons of different things that we've done. Each one we try to make a bit more physically challenging as well as a bigger fundraiser," says one of the Sole Sisters, Rhonda Armstrong. "This one's not quite as demanding (as a half-marathon) because it's hiking and walking, but it's definitely the furthest we've gone." Not that they won't be prepared. The group, which also includes Cris Williams, Karla Mott and Heather McGregor, will have walked, hiked and run about 900 kilometers in training by the time Oxfam Trailwalker Canada rolls around in late July.
