Major midget Venom best in Ontario Winning all but one of its five games by double-digit margins, the Oakville Venom major midget boys' AAA team won gold at last weekend's Ontario Basketball provincial championships in Windsor. The third-ranked Venom capped its undefeated performance with a 76-62 victory over the fourth-seed Durham City Bulldogs in the gold-medal game. Trevon McNeil scored 19 points and Mike Malo added 17 for Oakville, while K.C. Emmanuel drained a crucial three-pointer in the fourth quarter that sealed the victory. "It was a total team effort," Oakville coach Toney McNeil said of his squad, which overcame a lack of size and overall athleticism with teamwork and commitment. "These young men have worked very hard all season and they have earned this gold medal." Oakville also defeated the Scarborough Blues, St. David Blues, Waterloo Wildhawks and CIA Bounce during the tournament. Other members of the Venom are Lazar Kojovic, Nolan Mackenzie, Omar Buchanan, Regis Ivaniukas, Mahad Farah, Jerome Yumul, James Agyeman, Kevin Jarrett and George Babic. Aleks Jokovic is the assistant coach and Rachel Malo is the conditioning coach. Betty Ann Jarrett and Brian Jarrett are the team managers. The club's small contingent of first- and second-year swimmers placed sixth overall at the competition, the Dolphins' best-ever showing at the meet that attracts under-10 swimmers from across Ontario and Quebec. The Dolphins' top performer at the TOP Cup was eight-year-old Shannon Russell, who won eight gold medals, set two club records and took home the High Point Award. Also striking gold at the meet were nineyear-old Ian Chambers (50-metre, 100m and 200m breaststroke), eight-year-old Taylor Cherry (100m freestyle) and nine-year-old Jacob Mallet (200m breaststroke). Cherry added four bronze medals and Mallet earned two bronze. Cracking the top 16 for the Dolphins were Joseph Jedrej, William Tsounis, Avishka Deliveras and Jennifer Hu. Six-year-olds Alejandra Elliott Cordoba and Catherine Liu also represented the Dolphins well, as did new swimmers Stephan Tanaskovic, Reese Salisbury and Patricia Hu. FALL TACKLE HOUSE LEAGUE REGISTRATION OAKVILLE TITANS Wolfpack wins four national cheerleading titles Oakville CheerForce Wolfpack cheerleading teams won five division championships at the recent Cheer Alliance Canadian National All-Star Cheerleading Championships in Mississauga. The Wolfpack won the All-Star cheerleading championships in the Mini A 1, Junior 1, Senior Co-Ed 3 and Large Junior 5 divisions. The Senior Co-Ed 3 also won a special division championship for best creative use of music. The Wolfpack sent 14 teams to the national championships. The CheerForce family also extends to the Tigers in Hamilton, the Jaguars in Georgetown and the Wildcats in Midland. The Jaguars Small Senior 4 team won a special division title for dynamic dance, while the Wildcats won the All-Star Small Youth 1 title. The nationals concluded a very successful year for the CheerForce Wolfpack, which won numerous titles at competitions across Ontario and the United States.
