JONES lObituaries lObituaries SHAVER, Helen Marguerite nee Brownlie (Smith) - Passed away peacefully in the loving care of her family on April 7, 2010. She will be missed by her husband Don, her children Jim Smith (Madeleine), Vicki Smith (Mike Dick), Pam Calow (Russ), and Bil Smith; her eight grandchildren whom she adored: Ben, Sam and Dan Dick, Jocelyn Smith, Chris and Dan Calow, and Joshua and Jordan Owchar; and her sister Carole Bruen (Michael) and nephew Patrick. Helen was predeceased by her first husband, Grant Smith (1969), her son Mark Shaver (2005) and her daughter Stephanie Owchar (2007). Helen grew up in Hamilton and attended Delta Collegiate. After graduating from Hamilton Normal School, she taught primary grades at Ballard Public School. She attained her Bachelors Degree from McMaster University (1961) and her Masters from the University of Toronto (1972) before working as a librarian at Mohawk College for 25 years. In retirement Helen enjoyed her cottage, her kayak, travelling, and, most of all, her grandchildren. Helen was an active member, elder, and volunteer at Hopedale Presbyterian Church for 50 years. Cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service on May 1, 2010 at 11:00 am at Hopedale Presbyterian Church, 156 Third Line, Oakville. In lieu of flowers please give a child the gift of reading a book to them or make a donation to the Stephen Lewis Foundation or a charity of your choice. She fought a courageous battle with cancer. Loving, devoted and cherished wife of the late John (Bill) Pidgeon.
