It would have to heal before there could be an operation. That meant weeks without money to support his wife, his mother, his brothers. So when Dauphin returned a week ago, he brought with him The Brads:Dr. Brad Weening and Dr. Brad Petrisor, orthopedic surgeons. And a few days ago -- with Dauphin doing anesthesia at Michel's request -- the operation to fix Michel's arm took place in his own hospital. He went under the anesthetic with a big grin on his face. The surgery was a great success. According to Lynn Hierlihy, a friend and colleague of Weening's at OTMH, Weening was watching the news about the earthquake in Haiti from home when he decided that he wanted to go help. He made countless phone calls to numerous organizations trying to find a way to get there. He was determined to go, even if it meant making his own travel arrangements, which at the time and still, is no easy task. He booked off a week from his office and the hospital, rearranged his surgery schedule (his patients were very understanding too) even though he had yet to secure a way down to Haiti. Then he happened to meet up with another doctor he trained with in Hamilton who was going with St. Joseph's and he was able to join the team going down. Now it is a couple of days after the surgery and Michel is back in to have a follow-up. He has an x-ray of his arm -- with all its new hardware. It will be about three months before he can work in the OR again. But there is another image, too. Taken on this day as well. It's an ultrasound. Sandy and Michel's baby boy.
