Lang, 23, is currently in her final year at UCLA. Her collegiate career ended prematurely last September when she tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee, the same injury that forced her to sit out the entire 2006 season as a sophomore. Prior to hurting her knee last season, Lang had three goals and one assist in nine games. Kara Lang The St. Thomas Aquinas graduate is also a longtime cornerstone of the Canadian women's national team, playing for the senior squad since the age of 15. She helped Canada to silver at the under-19 world championships in 2002 and bronze at the 2007 Pan American Games, and competed in the 2008 Olympic Summer Games in Beijing. The WPS draft was scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. eastern. NIKKI WESLEY / OAKVILLE BEAVER Sabatino hockey tourney this weekend Minor Oaks Hockey Association's annual atom and peewee red house league tournament will be held this weekend at three rinks in the town. The ninth edition of the Frank Sabatino Memorial Tournament gets underway tonight (Friday) and concludes Sunday. Round-robin games will be played at River Oaks Recreation Centre, Joshua's Creek Arenas and Glen Abbey Recreation Centre, while Sunday's semifinals and finals will be contested at Joshua's Creek. A skills competition -- always a tournament highlight -- will take place tomorrow (Saturday) from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at Joshua's Creek. Due to the popularity of the event across Ontario, organizers have added another pool at the atom level to expand the tournament to 36 teams -- 20 in atom and 16 in peewee. Both divisions will feature eight local teams. The tournament has been full with a waitlist since the fall, attracting teams from as far away as Windsor, London, Ottawa and Durham. Various fundraising activities on behalf of the Oakville Hospital Foundation will be carried out during the tournament, with proceeds going to Oakville Trafalgar Hospital's Palliative Care service for cancer patients and their families. This year's donation will be made in the memory of Alex Pace, an Oakville boy who lost his battle with cancer last year. Alex would have played in the peewee division of this year's tournament. The tournament is held in the memory of Frank Sabatino, a former MOHA director and convener who passed away in 2001.
