www.oakvillebeaver.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Thursday, January 7, 2010 · 2 Forum presents conflicting views on Canada's military role in Afghanistan Afghanistan: Stay, Go or Something in Between is a free public forum to be held Sunday, Jan. 10. The event is at 7 p.m. at St. Jude's Anglican Church, 160 William St. and will feature presenters Haroon Siddiqui, columnist for the Toronto Star and Sally Armstrong, contributor to Maclean's magazine, Chatelaine and other publications. The Oakville Community Centre for Peace, Ecology and Human Rights (OCCPEHR) is hosting the forum. Both presenters are highly informed about Afghanistan having spent considerable time in that country and having met many of the leading figures associated with it. As they hold differing views on the value of past, present and future Canadian involvement there, this should prove to be a stimulating evening about one of the most important and controversial Canadian commitments of our time. After the presentations, the audience will be invited to ask questions and make brief comments. Canadians in Support of Afghan Women (CSAW) also will be present with a display featuring the two schools for girls that they are supporting. The meeting will be free, but there will be opportunities to contribute to support the work of CSAW and to pay for the expenses in holding the meeting. To receive e-mail notifications of future free public forums, events and activities hosted by OCCPEHR, contact info@oakvillepeacecentre.org or 905-849-5501.
