Victory celebrations by local teams were a familiar sight last year as Rangers squads won five of the 14 division titles up for grabs. Trade opened door for goaltender Di Salvo Continued from page 56 allowed Di Salvo to become the go-to guy for the first time since his minor hockey days. "Last year we had two No. 1 goalies," Williamson said. "With Michael being a local guy, I think Pete thought he was going to be the guy to get traded. We liked Hutch a lot but we liked the idea of having Pete another year. He was a guy we could build the team around." Williamson said Di Salvo has also proven to be a good mentor to backup Dalton McGrath. The faith the team showed in Di Salvo has been reflected in both his confidence and his performance. He has a 2.49 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage while compiling a 21-4-1 record. And while Di Salvo would like nothing more than to lead the Colts to the Memorial Cup, he knows better than to get ahead of himself. "It would be great to go a long way and I can't wait for that chance but that's still a long way away." It wouldn't be the first time the netminder has been rewarded for his patience. OT goal lifts Yellow Stingers to tournament crown Emily Cross scored in overtime of the championship game, lifting the Oakville Hornets novice Yellow Stingers to gold at the North Halton Twisters Fall Classic Tournament. Cross' game-winner came after the Yellow Stingers' Kyra Maher had scored with four minutes left in regulation to tie the game. Oakville won all four of its games at the tournament, riding the hot goaltending of Alyssa Garcia. Other members of the team are Shaleena Madon, Emma Stevens, Caroline Paquin, Jaida Borg, Joelle Mason, Parker Wales, Ashley Vincelli, Alyssa Garcia, Emily Cross, Kaitlyn Shikaze, Sloan Macaskill, Taylor Mahoney, Kaitlyn McMahon, Sophia Palucci, Samantha Carfrae and Kyra Maher. Tim Maher, Ryan Mahoney and Jeff Shikaze coach the team. STINGERS: The Oakville Hornets novice Yellow Stingers girls' hockey team won gold at the North Halton Twisters Fall Classic Tournament.
