OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, October 30, 2009 · 24 Civitan Club of Oakville Donates Student Desks & Chairs to OTMH The Civitan Club of Oakville has long been a financial contributor to OTMH. When this year's annual request for support was received, the Club asked the Oakville Hospital Foundation if OTMH's Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Inpatient Service (CAPIS) had any special projects that required funding. Since all CAPIS patients are of student age, and their average hospital stay is between 12-16 days, they need to continue schooling despite their temporary hospital home. The unit required new desks and chairs for each patient room to assist the student patients who are not well enough to remain in the classroom. The Civitan Club of Oakville met the challenge and in early July, 10 student desks and chairs arrived at OTMH. Partnering with Steelcase Canada, and its largest Canadian office furniture dealer POI Office Interiors, the Civitan Club was able to secure $10,000 worth of equipment for a donation of $6,500. Thank you for the health of our community. All three HHS hospital laboratories demonstrated outstanding performance during this stringent Ontario Laboratory Accreditation process and were each granted the highest possible status - a full 4-year accreditation certificate as of September 21, 2009. "Lab Accreditation involved a very complete, thorough and detailed inspection and review of our three hospital sites," said Mary Wilson Trider, HHS Vice-President Clinical and Corporate Services.
