The Sedmihlasek Children's Choir will perform a special, onenight only concert at 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 16 at St. Andrew's Church, 47 Reynolds St. Tickets will be available at the door, cash only, for $15 for adults, $ $10 for children and $40 for a family. Proceeds will go to The Sedmihlasek Children's Choir. Arts Briefs Management, with food from Jonathans Restaurant. The annual affair will benefit four local charities including: the Children's Aid Foundation of Halton, Community Living Oakville, Kerr Street Ministries and the Goddard Group Foundation. It will feature a trio of professional Canadian comedians. To date, the event has raised more than $100,000 and this year the event aims to match the $60,000 it raised in 2008. Poetry Cafe The organizers of Poetry Café in Oakville are holding an October event on Sunday, Oct. 18 from noon-2 p.m. at the Moonshine Café, 137 Kerr St. This month's event will feature George Elliot Clarke. Clarke was born in Windsor, Nova Scotia. His poetry books include Whylah Falls (1990) -- which garnered the Archibald Lampman Award for poetry -- Beatrice Chancy (1999) and Blues & Bliss: The Poetry of George Elliott Clarke (2008), which won the Eric Hoffer Book Award for poetry. He was awarded the Portia White Prize in 1998 and the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Fellows Prize in 2005. Clark is also the E.J. Pratt professor of Canadian Literature at University of Toronto.
