OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, October 9, 2009 · 8 Town takes Oakville Transit on new route Continued from page 3 ciency, but it is also better for nearby residents as the buses no longer drive past their homes on the way to the rear of the college. This terminal is also large enough to accommodate GO Transit buses, which until now had to pick students up on Trafalgar Road as there was on place for them on campus. "I think the important aspect of this is not only the efficiencies it offers us because we can get in and out of the campus so quickly, but the safety, security and convenience it offers the students," said Cole. "Ceremonial Drive is right next to the residence of the college so those people who live in residence, especially young women travelling after hours, they no longer have to traverse the campus in order to secure a ride on transit. Right outside the door of the residence there will be this terminal, where they can get either Oakville Transit or GO Transit and while waiting for the fairly frequent service provided by both they will be able to stand in what will be fully enclosed, heated shelters capable of holding virtually all of the students that would be waiting for a bus at one time." Those shelters will be installed in about a month. Director of Bus Services for GO Transit Paul Finnerty noted that, effective last Monday, GO has more than 70 buses a day stopping at the campus. Finnerty said GO's new doubledecker buses will be used for this. For Burton, the changes represent a considerable shift away from the way transit used to be run in Oakville. "We now have the first footings of a full grid system to speed people up and down and across town as an alternative to the way we've been doing it for the past few decades of going in and out of the GO stations," said Burton. "A new era has launched in Oakville." Renovate · Decorate · Celebrate Gliding Shelf Solutions Inc. Anyone can develop inflammatory bowel disease, regardless of age, race or gender.
