Fare hike proposed for Jan. 1 13 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, October 2, 2009 Continued from page 1 Oakville Transit already has the second highest senior ticket and senior pass in the GTA with the ticket weighing in at $1.75 while the pass sells for $50. The proposed changes to the Oakville Transit adult and student pass prices would only make the passes the fifth most expensive adult and student passes in the GTA with Mississauga ranking as the most expensive with $107 for an adult pass and $101 for a student pass. The possibility of a transit fare increase did not sit well with Lisa Seiler of environmentally friendly transportation group Oakville Green Trans. "If you are increasing the revenue from fare-paying passengers then it would be really nice to have some service improve- "My comment from Green Trans is that we are never in favour of transit fare increases and when we heard that no other communities in the GTA are increasing their fares next year, that doesn't sound good." You've just done this whole great transition (to the grid system), which is wonderful and I think with a few problems aside, it's being really well accepted, but there are little things that have been taken away and should be added back in." Seiler went on to call for the return of the Route 15 bus on Sundays and the Route 24 bus, which came half hourly through the evening. If approved, the proposed transit increase would come only one year after Oakville Transit fares were increased by 11 per cent on Jan. 1, 2009.
