I recognize that the neighbourhood is basing their opinions on stereotypes, but that doesn't change the fact that we don't want addicts, former addicts or recovering addicts here, plain and simple. Our preconceived notions may very well be misconceptions, but the reality is that most people share those same notions so, therefore, the value of our homes will suffer. That equates to the total Oakville municipal portion of taxes to be paid by 10 townhouses like mine. Unbelievable waste of money. I would bet a lot of money that were the mayor, his councillors and any Town staff asked for personal contributions, the island would never have been built. They have to think of Town expenditures as coming from their own pockets. I promised the mayor that a photo of the newly-built traffic `safety' island will be on the cover of my book on government inefficiency and wastage.
