5 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, September 4, 2009 New north high school planned By Tina Depko OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF The Halton District School Board will be building a new high school in northwest Oakville. The school, which has yet to be named, is anticipated to open in September 2011. It will be located on a parcel of land owned by the school board on Westoak Trails Boulevard, near Captain R. Wilson Public School, according to Steven Parfeniuk, superintendent of business services. "There are a number of portables for students at Abbey Park, and many students who reside in this area are going to the north campus of White Oaks Secondary School and are being transported there," said Parfeniuk. "This would be a school in their neighbourhood they could actually walk to." The expected capacity is likely to be between 1,000 and 1,200 students, according to Parfeniuk. The school will welcome Grades 9-12 and cost roughly $25-$30 million. The project is currently in the early design stage. "The architect will do his work and once he has designed a school, we will tender the project and then seek to get site plan approval and building permits," he said. Further details about the school, such as school boundaries and programming, are expected to be hammered out by trustees starting Oct. 7 when the first draft of the Long-Term Accommodation Plan is released. o t-of-T wn Ser vice & Ou rt rpo Ai OAKVILLE UNITED TAXI WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL!
