Donate & send a kid to Summer Camp. www.ymcaofoakville.com Local musician hoping to be YTV's Next Star Oakville teen Jonathan Lewis is one of the Top 16 finalists on the YTV show The Next Star: Season 2. The show is a televised singing competition, similar to Canadian Idol. The competitors, however, are much younger, aged 15 and under. Lewis, 13, has been singing since he was a young boy. He has never taken voice lessons, but has studied the guitar for several years. He currently writes his own songs, which are accompanied on guitar. He says he is mostly influenced by rock and pop music. "The Jonas Brothers and Bob Seger are my idols," he said. "I like the Jonas Brothers because of their catchy songs and because I like their style. Bob Seger I like because he writes awesome music." Auditions for The Next Star were held in May. Thousands of Canadian kids came out for their shot at fame. Lewis auditioned in Toronto. "I heard about it from someone at school two days before the audition," he said. "I've always liked performing, so I figured I might as well give it a try. Even if I didn't make it very far, I thought it would be a cool experience. I ended up doing better than I expected, so I'm glad I went in the end." Following rounds of cuts, Lewis was chosen to be part of the Top 16.
