OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, July 17, 2009 · 8 Canadian Open could cause traffic delays The 2009 RBC Canadian Open is coming and so are some changes that will be in place while the Open is in progress from Monday, July 20 to Monday, July 27. Those getting ready to attend the Open at the Glen Abbey Golf Club, may want to consider leaving their cars at home as no parking will be allowed on residential roads near the golf club so as not to obstruct emergency vehicles and local traffic. A free parking lot for spectators will be located on the east side of Third Line, just north of Dundas Street. Shuttle service from this parking lot to the golf course will be provided. For those who want to bike to the Open, bike racks are located just outside the spectator main entrance off Dorval Drive. Those too far away for bikes can try taking Oakville Transit as routes 28 and 18 travel to Glen Abbey. A number of sidewalks and lanes near the golf course will be closed during the July 2127 period. The northbound lanes of Dorval Drive from Leewood Drive to Fairway Hills Boulevard will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The eastbound (curb lane) of Upper Middle Road will be closed from Dorval Drive to the Smith-Triller Viaduct from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Finally the pedestrian sidewalk and the south side of Upper Middle Road will be closed from Dorval Drive to the east side of the Smith-Triller Viaduct, 24 hours a day. Major delays can be expected along Dundas Street during the morning and afternoon rush hours and commuters who drive through Oakville on Dundas Street are advised to take an alternate route during the Open. For the first time this year, in partnership with Halton Region, the RBC Canadian Open will be using GreenCarts within their concession stands for food and compostable paper products, including facial tissues, paper towels and paper napkins. The GreenCarts will help reduce the amount of waste going to the landfill from this year's tournament. Blue bins will also be available at concession stands to collect recyclables such as pop cans, plastic water bottles and drinking boxes. In addition, there will be multiple garbage receptacles along walk-in routes to the Glen Abbey Golf Club. Concerts by Kevin Costner and Modern West, Tom Cochrane, and Bachman Cummings will follow the close of play on July 23, 24 and 25. Visit www.oakville.ca for more information.
