OAKVILLE BEAVER Thursday, May 21, 2009 · 18 Oshawa will also Sunningdale overall champ at Collier meet sit out NFC season Continued from page 17 "I didn't want to make any decisions on behalf of the team because they weren't my solid decisions," said Bates. "It's too bad, man. Oakville has a heavy-duty history." Harrington said he anticipates the NFC will accept Oakville's application for a leave of absence, which would cost the team $1,000. He is hopeful that the club will be back for the 2010 season. "I think the year off will hopefully let us see the forest and not the trees," said Harrington. "We get so caught up every summer with running the club, we couldn't do much long-range planning." The Oshawa Hawkeyes are also expected sit out the 2009 NFC season, which is scheduled to begin later this month. Winning three of the six division pennants up for grabs, Sunningdale was the overall champion at the Halton District School Board's Collier track and field meet Tuesday in Burlington. Sunningdale won the junior boys', intermediate boys' and intermediate girls divisions en route to the championship at the meet, which featured the second-smallest of five groups of elementary schools in the Halton board. Sunningdale, which also won four of six team relays, finished with 358.83 points. Heritage Glen was second with 283 points. Two records were broken at the meet by local athletes. Captain R. Wilson's Tobi Sansui shaved nearly two-tenths off the junior girls' 100-metre record by finishing the race in 13.29 seconds. Abbey Lane's Alena Kondratieva set a senior girls' 100m record with a 12.93 time in her heat. Sunningdale's Courtney Evans and Kondratieva were the lone Oakville competitors to win three events. Evans finished first in the junior girls' 800m, 1,500m and high jump, while Kondratieva added the senior girls' 200m and 400m crowns to her 100m win. Other local multiple-event winners included Sunningdale's Graham Maskens (junior boys' 400m and 800m) and Kimbal Mackenzie (junior boys' high jump and triple jump), Heritage Glen's Niki Bozinoski (junior girls' triple jump and shot put), Ryan Park (junior boys' 100m and 200m) and Lacretia Antwi (intermediate girls' 100m and 200m), Pine Grove's Brandon Tyrrell (intermediate boys' 100m and high jump) and Lorne Skuce's Suebeen Chang (intermediate boys' 200m and long jump). The next track and field meet on the Halton District School Board schedule is the Gough competition (smallest schools in the board), slated for Monday. The board is also holding junior relay meets today (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday).
