OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, April 3, 2009 · 16 Funeral Saturday for Oakville student killed in crash An Oakville high school student, who was killed early Tuesday when the Jeep Wrangler he was driving went airborne and smashed into a Hwy. 403 overpass will be laid to rest Saturday. The funeral for Thomas Jasinski, 17, will be held at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, 2300 Burnhamthorpe Rd. W., Mississauga at 11 a.m. Visitation is Friday, from 2-9 p.m., at Turner & Porter on Hurontario St. He'll be buried at Assumption Catholic Cemetery on Tomken Rd. Jasinski, an "A" student in Grade 12 at Holy Trinity Secondary School in Oakville who was also busy with his own multimedia business, was driving home at about 1:30 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle near the Glen Erin Drive overpass. OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford said the Jeep dipped into the highway ditch and was then launched about five metres into the air. "The roof of the car actually went onto Glen Erin Dr. He had to be going pretty fast," Woodford said. Jasinski was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say he was travelling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the Jeep, slipping onto the right shoulder of the highway and into a ditch. It then hit a hill and went high in the air, smashing into the concrete overpass. The impact left the vehicle almost unrecognizable. Police believe driver fatigue and speed are factors in the accident. They have ruled out alcohol as a factor. "He was a good student who was working very hard towards his post secondary education. He was much liked and loved by the Grade 12s who he hung around quite a bit. He very much enjoyed computer technology and was entrepreneurial in spirit," said Gino Montanari, Vice principal of Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School. "We had our compassionate care team over yesterday (Tuesday) and they've dealt with a number of staff and students to console and talk with them about what had happened and that was very helpful," said Montanari. "We also had a mass yesterday to help students deal with the loss." School flags were flown at half mast. Jasinski had been accepted to University of Toronto's business studies program. (Northland Power), an industry leading independent power producer in Ontario, is proposing to construct a nominal 850 MW combinedcycle natural gas-fuelled electricity generating station known as the Royal Windsor Energy Centre (the Project) on a site located on Royal Windsor Drive in Mississauga (see map). Power generated from the station is planned to be delivered to the Ontario electricity grid via a short transmission line connecting to Hydro One's 230 kV line. The project is being developed to respond to the need for electrical generating capacity in Southwest GTA as identified by the Ontario Power Authority (OPA). The Project is subject to the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act (the Act) and Regulation 116/01. Under this Act and its supporting regulations, the Project will be subject to an environmental review that will require examining the project's potential effects on the environment including land, air, water, and noise; developing suitable measures to mitigate potential effects; and, extensive consultations with potentially affected stakeholders. Northland Power is committed to consulting and working with the public and stakeholder groups throughout the development of the Project. The consultation process will seek public and stakeholder input regarding local environmental and socio-economic conditions, facility design, project benefits and mitigation/management plans.
