11 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, March 27, 2009 Transit service fails to impress ex-Toronto resident Dancing with the Stars! special offer 5 SESSIONS OF DANCING $ NEW STUDENT OFFER By yourself or with a partner Continued from page 6 shocked at the lack of the same here. Expecting our second child at the time of the move, and having only one car between myself and my husband who needed the car four of every seven days for work, I tried the system only to stand in the cold and rain with no shelters -- and half the time no bus, despite having read the schedule. When things did work smoothly, I still had to pay a whole lot more than in Toronto. Now almost four years later and with a car of my own, my oldest has a part-time job that unfortunately sees him rely on Oakville Transit. After doing some research on the Student Freedom pass, I had to stand up and speak out. This pass is only good when Oakville Transit says it is -- certain dates, certain times. However, if we still lived in Toronto, my son could get to work for a mere $1.85 compared to $3 here. That works out to $18.50 (10 tickets) in Toronto compared to $21 ($2.10) here in Oakville. Needless to say, adult fare in Toronto is $2.75 compared to $3 in Oakville. A senior pays $3 in Oakville compared to $1.85 in Toronto. A child under the age of two in Oakville rides free with an adult fare, however, in Toronto, a child under the age of 12 rides for $0.70 and under the age of five, free. One last point, in Toronto if you are going to or from the GO all you need to do is show your pass, or ticket, or be on the TTC GO station bus and it is free. In Oakville, if you are doing the same, you have to pay $0.65. I now know why, I see so many empty buses speeding along the streets, or sitting idle for long periods of time, with so much traffic congestion on the main roads, why the people of Oakville have chosen not to be carbon friendly. It is time to wake up Oakville Transit. Let Toronto Transit take over, they know what they are doing.
