OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, March 13, 2009 · 26 Murphy working on upcoming album, performances with band Continued from page 24 "Jeff was very inspirational in that regard. His view is that it is all music. We love it all, so why not play it all?" Besides weddings, corporate functions and social events, the band performs at Toronto's The Orbit Room every Friday night, which is a tradition that's been going on for 12 years. The group has also opened for big acts like James Brown and The Barenaked Ladies. "We had the chance to open for James Brown a number of years ago, which was a real highlight as he's one of my heroes," he said. The Dave Murphy Band has released two independent albums, including Waiting for Dave in 1996 and Mysterious Juice in 1998. Murphy said the band is planning on releasing another album in the near future. Murphy said his other upcoming plans include playing music as much as possible. He said that while more awards would be nice, his real passion lies in the music itself. As someone who has served as a pianist for other greats like Ronnie Hawkins, Bo Diddley, Randy Bachman and Colin James, his reward is being on stage, sharing his gift. "When it turns out you can actually make an okay living at it and do what you love and be with people you love to be with, you realize how lucky you are," he said. "None of us are in it for the money. For myself, success is doing what you love. And I love my job." For information on Dave Murphy Band, visit www.davemurphyband.com.
