The Rangers had outshot the Bulldogs 39-11 in that game. It was that edge in play -- the product of having not having just one top line, but three of them -- that gave McNamara confidence in his team's ability to bounce back from the early goal. "We don't have a first, second or a third line," the Rangers' coach said. "They're just the red, white and blue lines (the colours they wear in practice). Any of them can score." McNamara said the forwards are supported by a strong defen- sive unit that moves the puck well. The Rangers demonstrated that as they pulled away from the Bulldogs. With the game tied 1-1, McNamara fed a pass to Ryan Dunn in the slot. Dunn turned and slid the puck just inside the post to give Oakville a 2-1 lead before the end of the first period. Early in the second, Brandon Gironda would score the goal that would prove to be the winner, though by the time the puck went in the net, he no longer had his stick. Gironda swooped in on a defender and poked the puck away, broke in and reached to slide the puck past the Burlington goaltender. "I stole (the puck) and had to hold on to it," Gironda said. "Just when I got it by him, (the defence- man) knocked my stick and it just flew (up in the air)." Russell would add his second of the game on a wraparound to extend the lead to 4-1. A Burlington goal early in the third seemed to spark the Bulldogs as they pressed for more, but Rangers goalie Lucas Cheeseman would not allow another goal. With just three regular-season games remaining, the Rangers have a one-point edge on Georgetown for first place in the Tri-County Hockey League. McNamara said the tournament victory will give the team a boost of confidence as it looks to hold on to top spot and as it prepares for playoffs. "They stepped up and made it happen," McNamara said following the victory. "They're all smiles."
