Oakville's two losses at the tournament came to the London Devilettes, viewed by many as the top club in Ontario. London defeated the Hornets 5-1 in round-robin play, then defeated Oakville 4-1 in the tournament's gold-medal game. Madeleine Clapham earned MVP honours for Oakville in the final. In the Hornets' other games, they edged the Etobicoke Dolphins 4-3 and blanked the Whitby Wolves 4-0. Novice B's open year with split The Oakville novice B Hornets opened their girls' hockey season GIRLSHOCKEY by splitting their first two league games. Oakville pounded the Durham West Lightning 9-0 in Ajax, then returned home and dropped a 2-1 decision to the Oshawa Lady Generals. Catherine Trevors sparked the Hornets in their first game, scor- ing four times. Chloe Saxton added a hat trick, with singles going to Madeline Hayes and Courtney Wilson. Isabelle Hardy and Emily Wilson each earned three assists. Hayes was the lone member of the Hornets to score against Oshawa. The Lady Generals scored the winning goal late in the third period.
