Now the team is heading to the provincial championships. The Cavaliers qualified for the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations A championships with a 38-23 victory over Brampton Christian last week. "They played the best game they ever have," said Cavaliers coach Shauna Scott. "They're very excited about going to OFSAA." King's Christian finished the Halton season with a 5-7 record, good for second in the Richardson East Division behind undefeated Milton District. Though they bowed out in the first round, as the lone A team to make the playoffs, the Cavaliers got an opportunity to play the Brampton school for the right to go to OFSAA. KCC started the year 0-2 before finishing off 5-5, with two of those losses to Milton. Scott said the team improved over the course of the season while playing against much larg- Sign here er schools. "They got a lot tougher," the Cavaliers coach said. "They improved their shooting and their skills." That improvement showed in their results. After losing 30-23 to Acton, also an A-sized school, the Cavaliers easily won the rematch a month later, 40-12. Lauren DeJong, who plays almost every position, led the Cavaliers with 10 points in Wednesday's win. Katy Moes, who had eight points, also made strong contributions defensively, blocking shots and rebounding. Other main contributors are Kristina Marra, whose speed and dribbling ability help the Cavaliers move the ball up the court, and Steph Shurman, who handles the ball well and is a reliable three-point threat. KCC will also get a boost from Nikki Pilo, who returned to the lineup after missing most of the season. Eight speed skaters qualify for North American meet Eight members of the Oakville Speed Skating Club have been selected to represent Ontario at the North American Short Track Championship in Madison, Wisconsin. Patrick Duffy, Emma Hobson, Sean Stewart, Jeremy Lin, Zachary Lin, Ryan McAnuff, Sean McAnuff and Blake Sullivan will form Oakville's biggest contingent ever for the competition, which will be held in December. The eight skaters were selected based on their performance at the Ontario Cup race in Cambridge. Nine Oakville skaters won races at the event. Duffy, Tiago Santos and Joshua Sullivan each earned first place in their divisions.
