At least I have waited long enough. I can't think of any other time that any political entity got this many people rallied up. This is the start of a new political scene. Barack Obama, President of the United States of America -- it has been a long time coming. Tuesday, Nov. 4 2008, will be a date that future students will be taught and future historians will say that America made history that day. Obama has inspired the younger generation to be political. This is the man who brought people who have never voted before in their life to come out to the polls. Politics have changed forever; they will never be the same again. But where does Canada fit into all of this? Why do we not have our own Obama? One argument can be that we are not as strong as the U.S., so we do not need as strong a leader to help us in such perilous times. America's vote was of global importance. I do not think all of America knew how important its election was to the rest of the world. American voters had an enormous amount of extra responsibility to handle this election year -- and this will not be the last year that the new tactics that Obama brought in are going to be used. Obama has brought a new way of politics to the democratic process. Youtube and Facebook will now be must-win states. Popstar power will be the popular vote. Not only did Obama bring hope to those people who really need it in the U.S., he has also brought hope to the world. His "way of being" is the only way I can describe it. there. Will those who seek to keep America in economic turmoil test him? How will the Iranians, the Russians, and the Arab world react? Will they reach out or will they attempt to take advantage of the new president? Obama, I must have heard that name a thousand times, and we can't even vote for him. But we can help him. We can bring change to America. The next time you think about those south of the border, think they can do it. Obama would say, "Yes we can." He can make a crowd of rambunctious 20 year olds silent. Only one question, can we do it? Obama thinks we can. The changes are needed, but it will take time. We see the issues: healthcare, the economy, the environment, the energy crisis and growing global community unrest. Can he do it all?
