Cynthia Perry, online resources librarian at OPL, wants all customers to be aware of just how much free information is available. "Online research databases from the Oakville Public Library's website offer access to thousands of credible, citable, current and historical sources and formats, all for free. The E-wareness campaign promotes the use of these electronically-accessible newspapers, mag- azines, encyclopedias, business directories and eBooks," said Perry. To encourage our customers to discover the abundance of free information within the databases and to experience just how easy it is to do, we are holding a competition to win some very cool prizes, including a Wii gaming system, a laptop, a digital camera and a DVD player. From Oct. 1 to 31, enter our ballot online by clicking the Ewareness logo located on the homepage or visit your local branch for a paper ballot. E-wareness Month is a HALINET (Halton Information Network) collaboration, a joint partnership of information and education providers whose goal is to raise awareness of online information resources available free of charge in the Halton region. Local libraries are promoting E-wareness to all residents and both public and separate schools are enabling students with the knowledge and tools to access the online databases and become research-savvy.
