The event included live urban art demonstrations set to the music of DJDL and Emcee Concept. Young local artists created their own graffiti art on four-by-eight-foot plywood boards to showcase this growing trend of unique art. According to Halton Regional Police Services, if graffiti is done without being granted permission, it is considered vandalism. Numerous studies and reports indicate that legal urban art projects decrease illegal graffiti and tagging in communities. The Halton Regional Police Services and its Youth Respect Action Committee held the first Urban Art Contest in June at the Oakville Waterfront Festival. The contest invited urban artists to deliver the message "Give Respect, Get Respect" through their artwork.
