Jazz Festival takes downtown stage The Downtown Oakville Jazz Festival is back for another year, with 23 jazz musicians performing on five stages from tonight through Sunday. Featured performers include Lao Tizer with jazz violinist Karen Briggs, Kollage, the Scott Martin Latin Soul Band from Los Angeles, Tyler Yurema, the Gap Mangione Big Band, Sue Foley, Carol Welsman, Carlos Del Junco, Son Roberts, Sue Foley and more. "The greatest part of working on the festival is sourcing all this amazing talent, the variety of performances and styles and then staging it free for the communities," said Peter Tulloch, chair of the Downtown Oakville Jazz Festival. The lineup tonight features flamenco jazz with The Café Ole at Centennial Square from 7:30-9 p.m. Stick around and enjoy a performance from 10-11:30 p.m. by Kollage, who were nominees at the National Jazz Awards in 2005, 2006 and 2007 for Acoustic Group of the Year. Another special treat Friday night is double Juno Award recipient Christopher Plock, who will perform with Glenn Anderson at Towne Square from 8-9:30 p.m. Tomorrow's lineup (Aug. 9) is filled to the brim with more artists.
