www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday August 2, 2008 - 5 Coast Guard crew featured in film on boating safety By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF The Town of Oakville's Water-Air Rescue Force (TOWARF) spent most of Friday, July 18, undertaking rescue missions in Lake Ontario even though no one was in any real danger. The Coast Guard Auxiliary Unit was chosen to star in a film on boating safety that will eventually be seen all around the country. Francois Vezina, the National Business Manager of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and head of the film project, spoke about the purpose of the film. "The Coast Guard Auxiliary, of which TOWARF is a member, is celebrating our 30th anniversary this year. The auxiliary was created back in 1978 as a volunteer arm of the Canadian Coast Guard for search and rescue," said Vezina. They first locate his boat at night and then later in the morning they locate him," said Vezina. "They pull him out of the water. He's a lit- RON KUZYK / OAKVILLE BEAVER AND... They take him back and then you have a reunion scene at the dock with him, his wife and their little girl." Vezina noted that this film will be used in three projects including a 30-second TV message about the auxiliary, a two-and-a-half minute TV message with more detail about what the auxiliary does and a third project in which segments of the scenario shot in Oakville will be added to a 20-minute-long documentary about the auxiliary.
