www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday July 18, 2008 - 3 Roads close as Open arrives The RBC Canadian Open is coming to Oakville next week, but with the tournament come road and sidewalk closures. Halton police remind residents that from Monday, July 21 to Sunday, July 27, the northbound lanes of Dorval Drive, from Leewood Drive to Fairway Hills Boulevard, will be closed daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The southbound lanes will be used for vehicle traffic in both directions. The eastbound (curb lane) of Upper Middle Road, from Dorval Drive to the Smith-Triller Viaduct, will also be closed for the entire week of the tournament from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. These restrictions will also affect the pedestrian sidewalk on the south side of Upper Middle Road from Dorval Drive to the east side of the SmithTriller Viaduct, which will be closed 24 hours a day for the full week. Parking restrictions will also be in place next week with Town of Oakville staff placing appropriate signage noting when parking is allowed, and when it is not, on streets near the Glen Abbey Golf Course. Bylaw enforcement officers will be monitoring the parking situation in these residential areas and violators are warned they may be ticketed or have their vehicle towed. Those attending the golf tournament are asked to use the public parking area on the east side of Third Line, just north of Dundas Street. Shuttle buses will transport spectators to and from the golf course. Police noted that during the week of the tournament residents should be prepared for traffic delays particularly on Dorval Drive from North Service Road to Upper Middle Road, Neyagawa Boulevard from Upper Middle Road to Burnhamthorpe Road, Upper Middle Road from Bronte Road to Neyagawa Boulevard and Dundas Street from Trafalgar Road to Bronte Road. As the morning and afternoon rush hours are expected to be affected by these delays, commuters who use Dundas Street to pass through Oakville are asked to consider using alternate routes such as the QEW or Hwy 407. Police are asking motorists to be patient and to watch for pedestrians and police officers directing traffic as they drive through these affected www.oakvillebeaver.com EXPANSION SALE ON NOW! Household alarms should be activated before going to bed and vehicles should be parked in a garage at night, if the garage is available. The Halton Regional Police Service is continuing to investigate this incident. Anyone with information related to it is asked to contact the Oakville Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905- 825-4777, ext. 2215 or 2210 or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Task force on youth mental health issues proposed Halton Region is looking into the feasibility of creating a task force that would address youth mental health issues. A motion directing staff to investigate the possibility was passed by regional council Wednesday. It comes in response to a presentation the Reach Out Centre for Kids (ROCK) made to a regional committee last week that detailed the dire situation regarding children's mental health. For example, the committee learned that fewer than 25 per cent of kids with mental health disorders are treated. Council also passed a motion to approve interim funding for the last quarter of 2008 to bring the services of a child and adolescent psychiatrist, providing the doctor is still available, to north Halton two days per week, starting later this year. Region staff will report back on the task force at future date.
