www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday July 4, 2008 - 9 Help cheer waterfront adventurers The Town of Oakville is asking residents to celebrate the Great Waterfront Trail Adventure and help cheer on the more than 200 cyclists who will be making a stop at Oakville's Coronation Park as part of their 680-kilometre tour on Saturday, July 5, at 10 a.m. "Oakville is home to 17 kilometres of beautiful waterfront trails and we're excited to be rest and refreshment stop on the Great Waterfront Trail Adventure," said Chris Mark, Director of Parks and Open Space for the Town of Oakville. "It's our chance to applaud the cyclists for raising awareness about improving our environment and promoting healthy and active living." Those participating in the Great Waterfront Trail Adventure will travel the 680 kilometre stretch of the Waterfront Trail from Niagara-on-the-Lake to the Québec border. The tour is designed to connect participants with their Great Lake, as well as support the Waterfront Regeneration Trust, which seeks to expand and enhance the Lake Ontario Waterfront Trails as part of the overall strategy to regenerate the waterfront. For residents traveling by bike to cheer on the cyclists, Cycle Path Oakville will be offering free bike exams and a bike safety workshop from 9 a.m to noon. Oakville's Waterfront Trail runs from Samuel Curtis Parkette (Lakeshore Road West, east of Burloak Drive) and extends to Arkendo Park (Lakeshore Road East, west Winston Churchill Boulevard).
