The preparations all herald a return to her roots. Ritorno Restaurant, at Trafalgar Road and Dundas Street, opens June 27. The name is Italian for 'to return to', an apt moniker for a dining experience intent on sharing food, time and conversation around mealtime. To do that, accessibility and affordability for all is key, said Julia. The menu is composed of well-loved family recipes given by her mom, grandmothers and aunts. "We've taken traditional recipes and taken them up a notch with new twists," said Julia. "We're infusing new energy into the old," she added. By `we' she refers to her longtime, revered and respected executive chef Carl Dahl of Julia Ristorante, a downtown destination that Hanna also owns. In a return to her own past life, working as a chef, Julia will also don her whites again and work her magic in the open kitchen and antipasto bar of Ritorno One of the unique features of Ritorno's menu is its flexibility. Customers are free to build their own plate of favourites by picking and choosing from the entrées, pastas, vegetables, salads, antipasto and more. "That's the wonderful thing about Italian food everything matches and goes together well," said Julia. The timing of next Friday's opening is just in time to let customers enjoy the outdoor patio for al fresco dining through the summer. On the chillier days there's the intimate setting of the welcoming interior in which to relax. "It's exciting because this is full circle for me," said Julia. True to Italian nature of sharing one's food, Ritorno brings a little slice of Italy to north Oakville. High arches. Low arches. Flat. Wide. Narrow. Toes that cross over. Toes that don't. Big feet.
