www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday March 19, 2008 - 27 Paint, Pastel and Precious Metal exhibition opens at Town Hall April 7 An art exhibition entitled Paint, Pastel and Precious Metal opens Monday, April 7 from 7 ­ 9 p.m. at Town Hall. The exhibition, which runs from April 4 ­ May 8, features the work of local artists Angela Lipscombe and Lucy Erskine. Lispcombe's work includes acrylic, oil pastel and watercolour paintings and often incorporates vivid colours. She was commissioned to provide the artwork for the cover of the 25th Anniversary Oakville Community Guide, as well as creating an Art Matters program at St. Luke Catholic Elementary School in Oakville. The program is now in its third year. Erskine will showcase her works in sterling silver and karat gold. Many of the items that will be on display have also been shown in various galleries, including the London Regional Art Gallery, the Art Gallery of Hamilton, Wellington County Museum and Oakville's Centennial Gallery. Mayor Rob Burton will speak at the opening reception on April 7. All are welcome to attend and view the works over coffee and dessert. Paint, Pastel and Precious Metal runs from April 4 ­ May 8, from 8:30 a.m. ­ 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Rd., just north of the QEW. This exhibit is made possible by the volunteers at Artworks Oakville. The show marks the first time Lipscombe and Erskine, who both reside in Oakville, have exhibited their work together. Carousel of Nations Festival opens tomorrow The Carousel of Nations Multicultural Festival opens Thursday, March 20 at Town Hall, from 6:30 ­ 8 p.m. The festival will feature cultural presentations representing various countries all over the map. It runs from now through to Friday, April 4. All visual arts presentations will be on display at Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Rd. Viewing is open from Monday Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. The Carousel of Nations Multicultural Association (CNMA) debuted in 1999 by hosting the Carousel of Nations Multicultural Festival in Oakville, and the organization has been hosting the event ever since. The festival is a product of collaboration between the CNMA and local ethno-cultural groups, as well as with professional and amateur multicultural artists from within and outside of Halton Region. Sponsors include the Ontario Trillium Foundation, The Regional Municipality of Halton, Halton Regional Police Service, Town of Oakville and Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning. This year's art exhibition will showcase visual art works from the cultural community groups involved in the Carousel. The aim of this exhibition is to provide the general public with increased exposure to diverse arts, increase multicultural arts and cultural activities in the community, integrate the artists and their arts into community life in Oakville, and increase the awareness of the annual Carousel of Nations Festival. We are conducting a study to test a new support group focused on helping women who have completed treatments for breast cancer and who have specific concerns about their body image and sexual functioning. The study is being offered through Princess Margaret Hospital and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
