Rabbi Dan Levin of Temple Beth El in Boca Raton, Florida conducted the installation. Wise, before arriving in Oakville, served for two years as assistant rabbi at Temple Beth El with Levin as his senior rabbi and mentor. Rabbi Sharon Sobel, the Executive Director of the Canadian Council for Reform Judaism, and Aviva Chernick, Shaarei-Beth El's cantorial soloist, led the congregation in worship. Guest Cantors Benjamin Maissner of Holy Blossom Temple and David Rosen of Beth Radom Congregation as well as Rabbi Edward Goldfarb of Holy Blossom Temple also participated in the service. Goldfarb served as rabbi of Shaarei-Beth El for 18 years. Wise was ordained from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in May of 2005. Motorcycle & Moped Industry Council St. Jude's open for Advent reflections Take time out for a day of art and poetry called Day of Art and Poetry "Advent Reflections" at St. Jude's Anglican Church On Saturday, Dec. 8, St. Jude's Anglican Church will be open to everyone in the community to enjoy a time of quiet reflection leading up to Christmas. Inspiration will be provided by the work of local artists and poets, and the assistance of ancient spiritual practices. Advent Reflections is nondenominational. The content of the art and poetry has been chosen not for literally representing the Christmas story. Instead, the highlighted works illuminate the ideas of joy, love, hope and peace, which are the themes of the four weeks leading up to Christmas in the time known as Advent. Experience the work of people of diverse perspectives and connect with people of different beliefs while expanding perceptions of joy, love, hope and peace. People are invited to spend time in personal refection within the church, and in the garden surrounding the church, where poetry will be on display for the entire month. On Dec. 8, a Labyrinth will be present in the hall, for those who wish to experience this ancient path to prayer and meditation. Advent is a time of expectation, of waiting, of contemplation, and of hope. St Jude's Anglican Church is located at 160 William St. (at Thomas). The doors will be open from noon to 4 p.m. The church, hall and garden are wheelchair accessible. All are welcome.
