Last Monday the Oakville Blades knocked off Hamilton, who at the time led the Provincial Jr. A Hockey League's West Conference. However, three consecutive losses have since dropped the Red Wings to fourth place. Friday, the Blades toppled the penthouse's current resident -- the Georgetown Raiders -- to move within a point of first place. The 4-1 victory created a logjam atop the standings. Despite the loss, Georgetown continued to hold down top spot with 23 points. Brampton and Oakville each have 22, followed by Hamilton (21), Burlington (20) and Milton (18). The good news is Oakville has at least two games in hand on the other teams in the top four. Julian Cimadamore wasted little time energizing the home crowd with a goal just 18 seconds into the game. He added another before the period was through to make it a 20 advantage. Luke Moodie, who figured in on every Oakville goal, scored a power-play marker in the second to increase the lead to three. Georgetown would get one back with six minutes to play but that did little more than spoil Scott Greenham's shutout bid. Greenham's 31-save performance lowered his goalsagainst average to 2.29, the best in the conference. Last season, while playing for the Ottawa Jr. Senators of the Central Jr. A Hockey League, Greenham played in the World Jr. A Challenge. That's where his current Oakville teammate Chris Haltigin is headed. The 19-year-old Oakville native will suit up for Canada East when the tournament begins in British Columbia Nov. 5. Haltigin has three goals and 11 points in 15 games this season. MICHAEL IVANIN / SPECIAL TO THE OAKVILLE BEAVER Steven Guzzo of the Oakville Blades hooks Georgetown Raider Scott Levitt as they pursue the puck during Friday's Provincial Junior A Hockey League game at Joshua Creek Arenas. Luke Moodie had four points and Julian Cimadamore scored twice as the Blades knocked off the conference-leading Raiders 4-1. With the victory, the Blades' third in a row, Oakville moves within a point of Georgetown. Oakville plays three times in three days, beginning with Friday's home game against the Hamilton Red Wings. Hamilton trails Oakville by one point. HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO ALL OUR MEMBERS!! REMEMBER THE IMPORTANCE OF SAFETY WHILE TRICK OR TREATING!
