Lace up your sneakers and take steps towards finding a cure. Taking Steps Against Breast Cancer is a leisurely, 5km, noncompetitive, fundraising walk plus a 1km Family Fun Walk. The Oakville event, however, features its own special twist-- thanks to the support of site sponsor Oakville Place, the event is held indoors at the mall, so participants don't need to worry about the weather. The event launches at 7:30 a.m. from the Centre Court of Oakville Place Shopping Mall, located at 240 Leighland Ave., with registration and a light breakfast for participants courtesy of Tim Hortons. Participants will also have the chance to enjoy face painting by Sheridan College and a warm up by Jazzercise. Participants will gather at 8:45 a.m. for the opening ceremonies hosted by Wave 94.7 FM. A special survivor recognition ceremony will honour those who have faced and overcome breast cancer. At 9 a.m., participants will lace up their sneakers and take to Oakville Place's indoor track for the 5km walk. The 5km track is equivalent to walking 15 times around one level of the mall. A 1kilometre Family Fun Walk will encourage young children to follow in their parents' footsteps in helping to find a cure. Oakville's own The Last Minute Band will once again provide entertainment during the event.
