For Oakville Liberal MPP Kevin Flynn it is a time to start knocking on doors. "I'm excited. It really is an exciting time for people in Oakville and in Ontario. I think it's been an exciting four years and people are going to have some very clear choices to make on Oct. 10," said Flynn. "The campaign is going really, really well. While the provincial elections campaign season may only be a few days old, the mud is already flying. Progressive Conservative Leader, John Tory pulled no punches during his first official campaign speech, held at the Oakville Conference Centre yesterday, blasting the Dalton McGuinty Liberal government over a laundry list of promises, Tory says, the premier failed to keep to the people of Ontario. "Exactly four years ago today Dalton McGuinty signed the Canadian Taxpayers Federation promise not to raise taxes, in fact I brought it with me because the CTF gave it to me this morning," said Tory producing a large framed document. "This is the original signed pledge in Mr. McGuinty's own handwriting where he pledged not to raise taxes. This was a promise he was very quick to make, but failed to keep." Tory noted that McGuinty would continue to make this pledge even two weeks before his introduction of the Ontario Health Premium, something Tory calls `the largest tax increase in Ontario's history.' "It's impossible to conclude that Dalton McGuinty didn't know what he was going to do when he said on Global Television, `we are not going to raise your taxes,'" said Tory.
