The A's earned an Ontario Baseball Association AAA championship last weekend with a 12-3 come-from-behind win over North York, capping a 6-1 showing at the OBA championships in Mississauga. The minor mosquito team was one of two Oakville Minor Baseball Association squads to win AAA titles Sunday, joining the mosquito team (story will appear in a future edition of the Beaver). Oakville broke the final contest open with an eight-run rally in the bottom of the sixth, ignited by a surprise bunt by cleanup hitter Tristan Pompey. Jake Medeiros, Ben Donnell, Michael Bradshaw, Boston Elliott and Luke Corbeth all followed by reaching base, and the rout was on. Earlier in the game, Nick Trogrlic-Iverson stroked a tworun triple and then scored on a passed ball as the A's rallied from a 3-0 deficit. Donnell, Medeiros and Pompey all pitched in the win. "That was the most amazing tournament that I have ever been associated with," said A's head coach Nevil Corbeth. "Those kids never quit... they worked too hard all year long to let this opportunity slip away." The final was played only an hour after Oakville dropped an 11-inning decision to North York, necessitating a winner-takeall matchup in the double-knockout tournament. Donnell and Medeiros each completed five innings in the loss, and Avery Gobbo tagged a runner out at the plate in a crucial play. Matt Luff and Jake Medeiros each had three hits, with Luke Whitehouse, Sam Medeiros, Ryan Tomka and Bradshaw adding two apiece. Oakville had won its first five games at the tournament, defeating Etobicoke 14-5, Brampton 6-2, North York 17-6, Waterloo 8-3 and Burlington 15-14. Trogrlic-Iverson went 3-for-3 and Pompey hit a home run against Etobicoke, while Donnell and Sam Medeiros allowed only one run each versus Brampton. Boston Elliott, Luff and Jake Medeiros went deep against North York. Oakville struck early against Waterloo as Luff, Pompey, Jake Medeiros, Donnell and Bradshaw had consecutive two-out hits in the first inning for a four-run rally. The A's struck late versus Burlington, with Pompey mashing a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh. Ken Pompey, Tony Medeiros and Gord Iverson also coach the squad. 905·877·5236 www.northhalton.ca TWILIGHT 7 Days A Week · Starting at 3pm K BOOINE ONL GOLF Oakville's Prime Time Oldtimers Hockey · Sunday Morning - All games in Prime Time · Classics (aged 50+) · Team or Individual Entry · Limited Availability · Other Divisions Available for Players Under 50 Information and/or Registration by phone 905-849-9712 or www.classicshockey.com Girls' volleyball tryout Wed.
