Rotary Dragon Boat Festival raises $65,000 for charity The 2007 edition of the Oakville Charity Dragon Boat Festival took place Sunday at Kelso Conservation Area, and it was a record-setting event. A best-ever 72 teams registered, the most ever in the four years the event has run. The event also set a fundraising record of $65,000, besting the previous record of $50,000. The primary beneficiary of funds raised is Halton Children's Aid and the help they offer to youth in the area. The Festival is run by the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar. Some notable achievements include: · Largest number of teams registered, 72. Previous best was 57 in 2006 · Record number of teams, 28, that sought pledges to help the fund-raising objective of the festival · One team, the Blue Tigers from Tigertel UTR, alone raised more than $10,000 in pledges. This is in addition to Tigertel being a Gold Sponsor. Despite the largest field yet, the racing was completed ahead of schedule, thanks to the many volunteers from Halton Children's Aid, Habitat for Humanity, and the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar and their families. The winning team, "A" Division Champions was the Hydrophobic Dragons, followed by the Eat Trout Grand Masters Mixed in second, and Quicksilver in third place. The Team Spirit Award was shared by Kids R Us and Dog Day Dragons, both representing the Children's Aid Society.
