www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday August 15, 2007 - 29 Movies in the Park opens Friday Sisters organized family fundraiser for Oakville hospital The First Annual Movies in the Park event is ready to roll on Friday, Aug. 17. The feature movie is Disney's Meet the Robinsons. Every penny raised at the family event will go towards the Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital's Maternal Child Unit. "Movies in the Park is a big thing that they do in the summer in New York," said Oakville's Candice Sarnecki, who's organizing the event along with her sister, Kasia. "We wanted to bring it to the Oakville community. We thought it would be an awesome thing not only for the community, but also for families." Donations will be accepted on a give whatever you can basis at the entrance points to the event, with all proceeds going to the local hospital's Maternal Child Unit. "We were asking the hospital, what's kind of one area that gets used by most of the community and that people really clamour to the Maternal Child Unit was the one they mentioned to us," said Candice. "It does service so many families in so many capacities." St. Mildred's Lighbourn School has donated its field to screen the movie, and the Sarnecki sisters have "rallied the troops" in town to help out with the event. Community sponsors include Oakville Chevrolet, Oakville VW, Angie McKinnon with Remax and Kraft Canada. The inaugural Movies in the Park event will also have on site raffles courtesy of Speers Paint and Flooring, Oakville Tire, Club Links, Hush Puppy Canada, Marriott hotels and more. There will also be concessions, entertainment and many other activities in addition to the screening of the family movie. The first 100 people to arrive will also receive gift bags. The sisters are hoping to attract more than 200 families to the event. "We're very excited about being able to do something, not only to bring out the community, but also to give back," said Candice. "Oakville hosts a lot of events, but very few of them are open for the younger families as well, and we really hope to get those younger families out to this event." Movies in the Park, supporting the OTMH Maternal Child Unit, is Friday, Aug. 17 at 8 p.m., or sundown. It will be held in the field at St. Mildred's Lighbourn School, 1080 Linbrook Rd. Those who would like more information about the event should email Kasia and Candice Sarnecki at moviesinthepark2007@yahoo.ca. Regional Police Chorus looking for more voices Do you sing?
