www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday August 3, 2007 - 25 Win Henstock Gallery A Celebratory Paint Out! We have many reasons to celebrate Oakville. And Win Henstock, renowned artist and gallery owner, is one of them. Never-ending in her contribution to our community, this summer Win Henstock has organized a `Paint-Out' event to please many an art enthusiast. From August 8th 11th, you will find Win and a group of 25-30 artists `about towne' individually painting what they discover beautiful to Oakville. Selective areas, such as the harbour and Gairloch Gardens are a favorite for this specialized group whose domain of expertise is Plein Air the art of painting outdoors. A French term, the Group of 7 followed closely the first "Plein Air' artists, impressionists Renoir and Monet. Tom Thompson, in particular, found fame painting outdoors throughout the Muskokas and Algonquians. "Paint-Outs are prevalent in California," says Win. "The weather is condusive to outdoor painting, whereas here there are restrictions." A Plein Air artist herself, Win Henstock speaks to the beauty of the art form. "It is up close and personal, subject to an automatic time limit forcing the painter to simplify and paint only what is essential." The Oakville `Paint-Out' event will be juried from Wednesday through to Friday to determine which art will be shown in the Win Henstock Gallery. On Saturday morning, there will be a `Quick-Draw' Prize. "A Quick Draw," Win explains, " is a two-hour competition wherein artists must finish their piece to compete for the best painting." Saturday evening from 6:00-9:00 pm Oakville is invited to view this collective work of Plein Air Art at the Win Henstock Gallery. The reception will feature the winning Summer Sale up to 70 (*on selected merchandise) off* % Hurry In! Selection Won't Last paintings available at a sale price. "Fifty percent of the gallery share of sales will be donated to the Oakville Trafalgar Hospital." Let's celebrate this opportunity that Win's `Paint Out' has given us.
