The 52-year-old Edwards, a former winner of the Vezina Trophy as the National Hockey League's top goaltender, was introduced as the new general manager of the Ontario Hockey League's Saginaw Spirit yesterday. Edwards was let go by the Blades in April after two seasons with the local Provincial Junior A Hockey League club. It was the Buzz, however, that took it on the chin, falling 7-4 and being eliminated from the postseason. The regular season, that is. Playoffs were a different story for the youthful local junior B lacrosse club, however. Oakville, which averaged 10.4 goals per game to rank third in the East Conference during regular-season play, was able to manage only 14 goals in its first-round playoff series against the Halton Hills Bulldogs. The Bulldogs concluded a threegame sweep of the Buzz Friday at Glen Abbey Recreation Centre, downing Oakville 7-4 and avenging postseason oustings at the hands of the Buzz in the previous two years. "We were prepared for it, but didn't know what to expect. In the playoffs, the pressure and intensity is so much more," said Buzz defender Michael Perras. "It's not so much about talent in playoff games, it's more so about experience." After winning a Founders Cup national championship in 2006, the Buzz lost nearly all of its players from that team this year and began the season with the modest hopes of a .500 record and a playoff appearance. Those expectations grew higher after a 9-0-1 start to the season, but the Buzz slowed down the stretch, finishing the regular campaign with a 14-4-2 mark and finishing second in the South East Division to the Mimico Mountaineers. Buzz general manager Ken Gillies said there were signs late in the season that Oakville might struggle with the defensive style of playoff lacrosse.
